I didn‘t really know a lot of things about the Amish people and that they really exist, until I signed up for the class. So everything surprised me when I have read that source! But what mostly surprised me in the text, was that the Amish people are originally from Germany and that they can choose at the age of 16 rather they want to live like that or not.
What is something you would like to know more about?
I would like to know how many german words the Amish people still are using or what has changed in their language.

Question 2: What is something that you learned about downtown Lancaster from Source 2?
Lancaster is a very cultural and agricultural city with a lot of different people and historical places. The Lancaster city has beautiful attractions like museums, bars, restaurants, arts, sports etc. with a lot of history of the Amish culture.

Question 3: Which place shown in the Lancaster video was most interesting to you? Why?
The most interesting places for me were the different types of restaurants, because I love to try new things and eat food from different cultures.

Question 4: How does downtown Lancaster seem similar to or different from the town you are currently living in? Your hometown?
I live in Montclair, New Jersey and I see a lot of difference between the Lancaster downtown and the downtown in New Jersey. Here works everything with electricity and everybody is using it. They are driving a lot with the car like for example when they need something from the market which is a 5 minutes walk, they would prefer to drive with the car. Also the shops, markets and bars are very modern, there is a lot of choice here. Likewise, everything here is loud and busier (and even in the evenings), compared to Lancaster it is quiet and peacefully. New Jersey was also very challenging for me, because my hometown is also very small, peacefully, old and quiet like Lancaster. So everything for me is new and I feel very overwhelming and sometimes I am really confused and overstrained. Without google maps I am a lost person.

Question 5: What is your reaction to the article about Amish romance novels and TV shows (Sources 3a and b)? How do you think you might react if you were an Amish person?
I think it is a great possibility to learn more about the Amish people and their culture.
How do you think you might react if romance novels or TV shows were being written about your home community by outsiders?
I think it is great, as long as they don't spread rumors and lies about my culture and the way I live.

Question 6: Have you ever used Uber? How does that shape your impression of Source 3c? Do you think you would take an Amish Uber if you had the chance?
Yes, I did. If I had the chance to take an Amish Uber I would definitely try it out, because it is worth it and could be a good experience and they can tell me more about them and their culture. I think that would be a fun ride.
Question 7: Have you ever participated in a race? How do you think running in non-traditional running clothes might affect your experience (based on Source 3d)?
No, I haven't participated in a race (only in school, when I had to). I think non-traditional running clothes might be the wrong clothes for a run, because it is very heavy and very uncomfortable and also you are sweating faster, but I don’t think it would affect my experience.
Question 8: Why do you think the Amish community requires its members to dress alike and in those styles?
Because I think the Amish people grow up with the clothing style and it’s a part of their community. Also I think maybe they want to look differently than others or it also could be a part of their religion.

Question 9: Have you ever had to wear a uniform? Did you like or dislike wearing the uniform? How did that experience affect you?
No, I never had to wear a uniform and I don’t really know if I would like it or not.
Question 10: What is one question about the Amish or Lancaster that you are excited to find out more about?
I am excited to know more about their lifestyle, like how are they living without electricity everyday. What is the distribution of roles between men and women. Also I would like to know how the children of Amish people are living. Are the children going to school or do they have to work in the household.
